Cube World 2D is a 2D platformer that is designed in mind for a casual gaming audience, particularly for players who are newer to video games or for those who prefer a more accessible and less punishing experience. The game centers around the concept of a movable cube that must navigate through the beginning of the level to the end of them all while avoiding hazards such as falling off the stage or collision with enemies. The core gameplay is built upon your movement, timing, and navigation, as the player receives basic mechanics such as jumping and double jumping. These mechanics allow players to traverse gaps, avoid enemies, and reach the flag goal at the end of the level. The game is designed with simplicity in mind. The core controls are easy to learn, move the on screen joystick right or left to change directions, and press the big button with an arrow on it to jump. Press the button with the arrow on it again to perform a double jump. This easy control style makes it approachable to beginners while still offering satisfying movement. This system encourages players to think about their positioning relative to the level and timing rather than just simply rely on combat. The current build features a coin counter for players to keep track of the coins they have collected, a timer for players to see how long you’ve spent on the level, and a lives system consisting of 3 lives, and losing all 3 lives result in a game over. Cube World will feature simple sound effects, such as hitting an enemy, or collecting a coin, as well as incorporating music. The music will also be simple, going for an classic approach of simple, bit tunes. As for development, I’ve mentioned that I’ve developed this project using GDevelop, as it has been helpful to me with beginner friendly UI and easy to understand conditions and functions. Reaching the checkpoint ends the level successfully, encouraging players to then go back through and collect more coins than before or try and compete to get the fastest time through the level.
